1) Ronald Acuna OF

Acuna is as 5-tool as 5-tool gets. He is the perfect mix of plus power/hit/speed as you’d want in a prospect. He rocketed through three levels of the Braves in 2017. He came over to the AFL where I was able to see him in game and before the game in BP over a dozen times. He’s got great bat speed, which generates some loud power. He can get over extended and press himself into some bad strikeouts, but he also seemed to find a way to get a hit in every game I watched. He capped his 2017 off by winning AFL MVP, which was well deserved. He’s the number one overall player for a reason. 20/40 is a very distinct possibility. The AVG is where i struggle. His minor numbers indicate a .300 hitter, but I think he might be looking more .270 range, with a ceiling of .300. All-in on Acuna, and one of the few minor league players I believe has an unnamed cost in trades. You can only do it, when you can’t say no.

2) Austin Riley 3B

Riley has shown a lot consistency through the last two years. He’s essentially made himself into a .270 20HR guy that you can take to the bank. There is a lot more upside though. He made his way into the fall league, and didn’t disappoint. I remember first seeing him, and the body was a tad stiff, but by the end, he seemed to transform a bit looking more athletic and moving easier. He had some long HR’s I was able to catch, and even hit for the cycle in one game. Riley is one of those few guys that I think may make the lateral stat move from minors to the majors, as I see him as .260-.270 type hitter, but with 30+ HR potential. He should get a look very soon in ATL.

3) Luiz Gohara SP

Acuna got all the publicity for rising through three levels with ATL in ‘17, but Gohara went four! He started in A+ and ended in the majors getting five starts and striking out 31 over 29. I always had a worry with Gohara’s body that sticking as a starter could be tough, but I was wrong. He may always be a Sabathia body type, but his conditioning wasn’t a problem as he maintained a plus FB, and improved his slider into a plus punch out pitch. For me he is the top pitching prospect with the Braves (partially accounting for immediate playing time with the Braves) but I think that says something, as no one has a better crop of young arms than ATL.

4) Kyle Wright SP

Wright was in talks as a top overall pick in 2017. I remember watching a game of Vanderbilt (Wright) vs Louisville (Brendan McKay) and Wright dominated with his hard curveball. His FB is pretty good, with a near plus slider/cutter. I’d feel comfortable saying he was probably the safest arm in the ‘17 draft. He doesn’t have the ceiling (in my eyes) as Gore and Greene, but he’s a combination consistent stuff that is going to set him apart. I almost think of like a Mitch Keller when comparing stuff to production.

5) Mike Soroka SP

Of the crop of ATL pitchers, what I like about Soroka the most is the command. I mean that in multiple ways. He has overall great “command” in his pitches, but I also like how he commands the ground ball swings at his sinker. Like Wright, I don’t want to say he’s “safe” and it come off as a slight, but Soroka is advanced for his age from going deep in innings to commanding the strike zone, he is a safe option. Someone like Wentz might have a bit more upside, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with risks. I believe Soroka is a really great #2 or #3 pitcher to stash in your minors. He could pay off earlier than many others.

6) Joey Wentz SP

7) Ian Anderson SP

8) Kolby Allard SP

9) Max Fried SP

10) Touki Toussaint SP
