1) Nick Pratto 1B

Pratto is one of my favorite 1B prospects in all the minors right now. I had a chance to see his first pro hit and talk with him after the game. He’s a smart, bright kid who wasn’t worried about the result, as much as getting “good at-bats. He is a strong defender, and has the hit tool and power to be a middle of the lineup guy. I had said earlier this year, he had the most natural swing of any player I witnessed in the AZL. He faced some surprisingly good competition as I saw him face Michel Baez and Hunter Greene to name a few. I’m hopeful that the hit tool brings a high AVG, but at worst he’s in the .260 range with 25+ HR power. Very aggressive in my Pratto ownership.

2) Khalil Lee OF

Lee is another one of these guys I was able to get a glimpse of during instructs. He looks like he’s put on muscle from the start of last season. It shows a bit more, as he isn’t the tallest guy at 5’10, but he plays bigger. He generates a lot of power in his swing, but it’s also caused some AVG issues. I worry those AVG problems, could follow him, but he is a power/speed threat as he had 20 SB and 17 HR’s last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up like a Steven Souza (take that however you want). If he does right that, he should be a 5 tool prospect. I’m monitoring him pretty actively this season, as he could jump into the mid top 100 this year.

3) Seuly Matias OF

Matias is a masher. Some say he’s got the most power in the organization. He’s not much of a runner, and probably going to be a sub .280 hitter that has a chance to hit a lot of HR’s if the contact is made. Matias is striking out a lot, which is the main thing he has to continue working on, and I think an important part of the development as a whole. We’ve seen lots of light tower power guys fizzle out due to lack of contact, so that’s what I’m watching for here.

4) Nicky Lopez SS

I’ve flipped and flopped with Lopez for the last year. His size has me wonder if he’ll ever be an average HR threat. His bat tool is working in the minors, but will it translate and if the running slows down I think his value can take a hit. All that said, I flipped more when I saw him a few times in the AFL and chatted with him. He really does have a great approach at the plate that is going to drive a good AVG. It’s hard to predict the counting stats, but he walked as many times as he SKO in 2017. So he’s going to get on base, plus he has the tools to be an everyday SS in the majors defensively. I am cautiously optimistic moving forward.

5) Michael Gigliotti OF

There was a lot to like about the 2017 4th rounder. He hit .320 and stole 22 bases in 241 AB’s last year. The SB’s are going to be a calling card, but he also proved to be an advanved hitter at the plate SKO only 41 times, and walking 40 times. This is a “power is the last tool to develop” hope I have for Gigliotti, because it all seems to be shaping up to be a late round steal. He’s probably going to hit one or two, so maybe his HR and RBI’s suffer, but he might be elite in three categories. Monitor in 2018.

6) Ryan O’Hearn 1B

7) MJ Melendez C

8) Josh Staumont SP/RP

9) Eric Skoglund SP

10) Hunter Dozier 3B/1B
