Check out the NL East Top 10 Team Prospects podcast when Scott Bogman interviews me on my thoughts on these players plus a look beyond the top 10 for some teams.

1) Lewis Brinson OF

We have to give serious considerations to true 20-20 players in the prospect game. Brinson sits near the top of these players. Brinson is in a weird place right now, which might even make him cheaper to acquire than usual because he has dominated the minors to this point, while falling a little flat in his first major league stint. Brinson obviously can hit for power and steal, but throughout his minor league time he’s shown the ability to adjust and dominate. I think 2018 could be big for Brinson, so I’d be buying, not selling.

2) Monte Harrison OF

2017 was a big breakout year for Harrison. He popped out a 20/20 HR/SB season while hitting .270. His SKO’s are a problem, but I am encouraged by his knack for breakout out of slumps. I caught him multiple times in the AFL this year. Up until the first game I saw him, he was awful. AVG that I believe was hovering .100 and lots of SKO’s. My game he hit two HR’s (one which was a GS) and got his first seven RBI’s. I talked to him after the game and he was very relaxed and excited to put on that show. He didn’t slow down the rest of the way. Harrison is also a physical specimen. He’ll remind a lot of people of Puig. AVG and SKO’s might always be an issue, but power and speed shouldn’t be. I’m a buyer on Harrison.

3) Isan Diaz 2B

Diaz was a favorite coming into ‘17, but he saw a big regression. His AVG dropped down to .223 which is a three year decline, and his power/speed numbers dipped as well. Those power/speed numbers though keep me in the game, because he’s got the swing to continue that power output, he just needs to make more contact (easier said than done, I know). He plays a premium position that makes him more valuable, and I think ‘18 can be a big bounce back. Buy the dip on his value, and reap the reward I say!

4) Sandy Alcantara SP

Alcantara is a force with his FB. He continues to work on his Curve, Slider and a changeup. I caught him a few times in the AFL, and his FB was tough for many batters when playing from behind. The one thing I didn’t love was at times it was straight, but I mean it was still 98-100. His command is his biggest battle, especially with his secondary offerings. There is a gamble factor taking him inside the top 100, so he sits outside of it, but has the potential to far surpass.

5) Jorge Guzman SP

Guzman shares some similarities to Alcantara. High 90’s to triple digit FB, decent slider and a working change, but control puts him in a place where he is throwing more than pitching. Both players have had high relief risk, but the Marlins have come out and stated they see him as a future ace. That alone should make you feel better about the risk. What I like about Guzman, is his late availability, with the Michael Pineda starter potential. Be comfortable once you hit the top 150 range.

6) Braxton Garrett SP

7) Brian Anderson 3B

8) Joe Dunand 3B

9) Trevor Rogers SP

10) Dillon Peters SP
